Welcome to
Steart Marshes
Somerset’s wetland landscape
The beef cattle reared by the Blue Carbon Farming Company on protected saltmarshes are an integral part of how the Wildlife & Wetland Trust (WWT) are delivering a sustainable wetland biosphere on the Steart Peninsula in Somerset. For the first time in around 40 years, Aberdeen Angus & Hereford cattle are grazed on the salt marshes. This helps promote the lifecycle of the wetlands through sustainable farming of the land, which in turn, increases insect and bird populations; at the same time trapping more carbon into the ground helping plant life to flourish. Our Salt Marsh Cattle feed on some of the most diverse pasture, including fresh samphire and sea aster. As a result, our beef range is some of the tastiest meat you'll ever experience; with nature and high welfare standards at the heart of what we do.
Our Mission
We are a co-operative of three farming families, producing beautiful quality salt marsh beef with sustainability at the heart of what we do. By rearing Aberdeen Angus & Hereford Cattle (the traditional beef breeds) on Steart’s salt marshes, ensuring our livestock is processed locally with care and respect and with all the produce being prepared by our skilled bespoke butchers; we are able to offer our carefully curated ‘Field to Fork Collections’ and individual products. Guaranteed freshness, welfare and farm to table traceability is ensured, along with as small a carbon footprint in our production as possible. Our aim is that we could even be carbon negative by sinking more carbon into the ground than we take away from it. We understand that many are changing their eating habits by reducing meat consumption. Our hope is that when you do choose to eat meat, you do so with locality and quality in mind. Support local, eat seasonal, back British.
Our Farm to Table Collections are a handpicked selections of this, that and the other and are super duper tasty. The cuts are frozen on the day they are prepared to lock in the freshness and nutrients that our natural grass fed cattle are renown for.

When you buy locally it directly helps support local families and industry meaning more can flourish and develop. It also reduces your own carbon footprint.
Sustainable
When our cattle graze the wetlands new grass growth draws carbon into the roots which stay in the soil after the plants die. FIND OUT MORE HERE.
Carbon Footprint
All our produce is grown and processed within a 20 square miles area. If that’s not keeping our Carbon Footprint down we don’t know what is.
